Raise a Glass

Today is the tenth anniversary of my identical twin sister's death.

For those of you who didn't know Caterina del Cavallo, founder of our shire and grande dame of SCA-upstate NY, she was a memorable lady indeed. ("I'm a lady, and I have a piece of paper to prove it!" was one of her favorite quotes.) Acid-tongued, witty, and brilliant, she spared herself as little as she spared anyone else.

I miss her. She inspired me to make my life better by taking on more challenges. I wouldn't be where I am today if she hadn't pushed, encouraged, and mocked.

And I don't need sympathy, although I want to thank those of you who are ready to offer it. I got through the depths of depression a few years back. Instead, I'd like to propose this: Whether or not you knew my sister, if you could raise a glass of whatever in her memory this day, it would be appreciated.

Thanks.
